Detail work, in the downtown core

Othman's Guelph is a family-owned shop at 87 Macdonell St, right by the Sleeman Centre and St George's Square. Guelph Transit runs frequently between the University Centre and Guelph Central Station, and we are a two-minute walk from the station — so you can get here from campus without a car.

Zero fades are our most requested cut here, followed by skin fades and mid and low tapers. But Guelph is also where a lot of our scissor work happens: mod cuts, side parts, French crops and textured longer styles cut with shears rather than clippers. Our barbers are trained on both, so asking for something more tailored than a clipper length is a normal request, not an awkward one.

The detail is the part people come back for. Beards are shaped to your jawline rather than a template and lined with a straight razor; The Full Package puts a haircut, beard trim and hot towel shave in one sitting. Every appointment opens with a consultation — bring a photo or let your barber recommend from your hair texture and face shape.

Pick the cut first

Knowing the guard number before you sit down saves five minutes of guessing. Show your barber the name, or just the number.

0–2Guard

Skin fade

Bare at the neckline, blended up into length on top. The blend is the whole job — done properly there is no line where one length becomes the next. Grows out fastest, so plan on about three weeks.

2–4Guard

Mid taper fade

Softer contrast, starting higher on the head. Holds its shape longer than a skin fade, which makes it the practical pick if you want one cut to carry you.

ScissorOn top

Scissor cut

Cut entirely with shears, no clippers on top. Point-cut through the ends to take weight out without losing length, so it falls naturally instead of sitting in a block. Grows out well.

ScissorMod & classic

Mod cut

A proper side part or a French crop with a real disconnect — the sharp, tailored end of barbering. Ask at Guelph or Waterloo, where we cut these most.

3–4Guard

Crew cut

Short and even all over, a little longer at the front. Nothing to style in the morning, and the lowest-maintenance cut we do.

BeardRazor line

Beard & hot towel

Shaped to your jaw rather than a template, lined with a straight razor, finished with a hot towel. The detail work people come back for.

Guelph — frequently asked

Where is the best place to get a fade in downtown Guelph?

Othman's Barbershop is in the heart of the city at 87 Macdonell St, Guelph, ON N1H 2Z7, right near the Sleeman Centre. We bring elite grooming and the sharpest beard line-ups to the downtown Guelph core.

What kind of fades does Othman's Guelph specialise in?

Zero fades are our most requested cut in Guelph, followed by skin fades, mid tapers and low tapers. What makes a fade good is the blend — done properly there is no visible line where one length becomes the next, and it still looks deliberate three weeks later. Every appointment starts with a consultation, so bring a photo or ask your barber what suits your hair texture and face shape.

How much is a student haircut in Guelph?

Student haircuts start at $30 with a valid student ID. The student menu also includes the Student Taper Fade ($35), Student Zero Fade ($35), Student Skin Fade ($38), Student Haircut & Beard Special ($50), Student Zero Fade & Beard Trim ($53) and Student Zero Fade & Hot Towel Shave ($55). University of Guelph and Conestoga College Guelph students qualify — bring your card or have it on your phone.

I just moved to Guelph for school — where should I get my first haircut?

Othman's is where most University of Guelph students end up once they find us. We are family-owned, in the downtown core, we cut every hair type and texture, and we cover both ends of the range — zero fades, skin fades and tapers on one side, scissor cuts, mod cuts and textured crops on the other. Book once, find a barber whose work you like, and stop guessing.

Do you do scissor cuts and mod cuts in Guelph?

Yes, and Guelph is one of the two shops to ask at — Waterloo is the other. Our barbers work with shears as well as clippers, so mod cuts, side parts, French crops and longer textured styles are standard here. A scissor cut removes weight without removing length, so the hair sits naturally and grows out far more gracefully than a clipper cut. Mention it when you book so enough time is set aside.

How do I get to Othman's from the University of Guelph campus?

Guelph Transit runs frequently between the University Centre and Guelph Central Station, and we are a two-minute walk from the station. Driving takes roughly seven minutes, with paid parking throughout the downtown core. If you live along the Gordon St corridor you are already on the direct route.

When should I book my haircut for the start of the semester?

Book before you move in. Our calendar tightens noticeably during University of Guelph move-in week and stays tight through the first few weeks of term. If you want a fresh cut for O-Week, club photos or your first round of introductions, reserve the slot in advance rather than hoping for a walk-in.

Do you take walk-ins in downtown Guelph?

We take walk-ins whenever a chair is free, but September fills fast. Move-in week and the first month of the fall semester are our busiest stretch of the year, so booking ahead is the safer call. Online booking takes under a minute.

Do you offer beard grooming services in Guelph?

Absolutely. We are known for detailed beard shaping and for The Full Package, which includes a haircut, beard trim and hot towel shave.

Can I request a specific barber at Othman's Guelph?

Yes. Book online and select your barber by name. Once you have found someone whose work you like, request them every visit — that is the difference between having a barber and just getting a haircut.

How can I pay for my service at the Guelph location?

We accept debit, credit and cash. Our Guelph shop also has an on-site ATM managed by Othman's with $0 service fees, so you can get cash conveniently and at no extra cost.

What are the opening hours for Othman's in Guelph?

Monday to Friday 10:00 AM – 7:30 PM, Saturday 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM, and Sunday 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
