Fades, and everything past them

Our Albert St shop sits in the University District, a short walk from both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier, and minutes from Uptown. If you live along Albert, Hazel or Lester, we are one of the closest chairs to your door.

Fades are what most people book, and we cut a lot of them — skin fades, mid and low tapers, burst fades, blended so there is no line where one length becomes the next. But Waterloo is also where we do the most scissor work in the group: mod cuts, proper side parts, French crops and textured longer styles cut with shears rather than clippers. If you want something more tailored than a number on the sides, this is the shop to ask at.

Every appointment opens with a consultation. Your barber reads your hair texture, density and growth pattern before anything is cut, and will tell you honestly whether the photo on your phone will work on your head or what to ask for instead. We cut every hair type — straight, wavy, curly and coily — and shape curls rather than fighting them flat.

The menu

Pick the cut first

Knowing the guard number before you sit down saves five minutes of guessing. Show your barber the name, or just the number.

0–2Guard

Skin fade

Bare at the neckline, blended up into length on top. The blend is the whole job — done properly there is no line where one length becomes the next. Grows out fastest, so plan on about three weeks.

2–4Guard

Mid taper fade

Softer contrast, starting higher on the head. Holds its shape longer than a skin fade, which makes it the practical pick if you want one cut to carry you.

ScissorOn top

Scissor cut

Cut entirely with shears, no clippers on top. Point-cut through the ends to take weight out without losing length, so it falls naturally instead of sitting in a block. Grows out well.

ScissorMod & classic

Mod cut

A proper side part or a French crop with a real disconnect — the sharp, tailored end of barbering. Ask at Guelph or Waterloo, where we cut these most.

3–4Guard

Crew cut

Short and even all over, a little longer at the front. Nothing to style in the morning, and the lowest-maintenance cut we do.

BeardRazor line

Beard & hot towel

Shaped to your jaw rather than a template, lined with a straight razor, finished with a hot towel. The detail work people come back for.

Waterloo — frequently asked

Where is Othman's Barbershop located in Waterloo?

Othman's Waterloo is at 288 Albert St, Unit 108, Waterloo, ON N2L 0G9 — in the University District, a short walk from both the University of Waterloo and Wilfrid Laurier campuses, and minutes from Uptown Waterloo. It is one of the closest barbershops to student housing along Albert, Hazel and Lester.

Is Othman's a good barbershop for university students?

Yes. The Waterloo shop is built around the student schedule and the styles students actually ask for: mid and low taper fades, textured crops, burst fades, curly-hair shaping, line-ups and beard work. Our barbers cut every hair type and texture, and we are used to working around class blocks, midterms and late-night study sessions.

Is Othman's Barbershop Waterloo open late?

Yes. We are open until 11:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, which makes us the most accessible late-night barbershop in Waterloo. Ideal if you need a fresh cut before a night out, a formal, or an early-morning interview.

Do you take walk-ins at the Waterloo location?

Yes. Walk-ins are welcome whenever a chair is free. During the first weeks of each term and on Friday and Saturday evenings the shop fills up, so booking online is the safer bet if you are on a schedule.

What haircuts are most popular at Othman's Waterloo?

The most requested are the mid taper fade, low taper fade, textured fringe or crop, burst fade, and an edge-up with a beard trim. Scissor cuts and mod cuts are a close second here — more of them are booked at Waterloo than anywhere else in the group. If you are not sure what suits you, bring a photo or ask your barber for a recommendation based on your hair texture and face shape. Consultations are free and part of every appointment.

Do you do scissor cuts and mod cuts, or only fades?

Both, and Waterloo is one of the two shops to ask at — Guelph is the other. Our barbers are trained on shears as well as clippers, so scissor cuts, mod cuts, proper side parts, French crops and longer textured styles are all standard work here. A scissor cut takes weight out without losing length, so the hair falls naturally instead of sitting in a block, and it grows out far more gracefully than a clipper cut. Mention it when you book so the right amount of time is set aside.

Can you cut curly or coily hair?

Yes. Our barbers cut every hair type and texture, and curls get shaped to their pattern rather than cut flat and left to spring back into a shape nobody asked for. If your hair has been cut badly before, tell your barber what went wrong — that is more useful to us than a reference photo.

Can I book a specific barber in Waterloo?

Yes. When you book online you can select your preferred barber by name, so you get the same hands and the same result every visit.

Does Othman's Waterloo offer student pricing?

Yes. We run a full student menu with a valid student ID, including University of Waterloo, Wilfrid Laurier and Conestoga students. Bring your card or have it on your phone.

How much does a haircut cost at Othman's Barbershop Waterloo?

A standard haircut is $35 and takes 30 minutes. Popular add-ons are a haircut and beard trim for $53, a haircut with hot towel shave for $58, and a hair line-up for $12. Zero fades are $38 and skin fades are $40. Our Full Package Men's Grooming is $110 for 1 hour 15 minutes.

What payment methods does Othman's Waterloo accept?

Debit, all major credit cards, and cash. There is an on-site Othman's-managed ATM with no withdrawal fees, so you can grab cash for your cut or your barber's tip without paying a service charge.
